Rapid hair growth of 10 cm in one month?
Have you ever come across miraculous potions for hair growth almost at the speed of light? From applying mustard, castor oil, broth, beans, onion, eggs from happy hens to the roots, to drinking “magical” potions with unknown contents, the recipes are endless and promise to turn us into Rapunzel in no time. Is this really possible? We continue our series of blog posts with the mission to uncover the mystery around the speed of hair growth by examining the phases of hair growth. Each hair passes through every phase, and physiologically it cannot be in constant growth.
Hair grows on average about 1 cm per month for 3 to 5 years. Growth occurs in a repeating cycle divided into four phases of varying duration: anagen (growth), catagen (transitional phase), telogen (rest), and exogen (shedding).
Anagen is the active growth phase in which the dermal papilla is connected to blood vessels and thus supplies the follicle with oxygen and nutrients. In this phase, the hair follicle is enlarged. The primary stem cells of the hair actively divide. As they divide, new cells push the older ones upward, they keratinize, and this causes the hair to grow. The anagen phase lasts several years, and the longer it lasts, the longer and healthier the hair grows. In short, a good and effective hair growth therapy should extend the duration of the anagen phase.Catagen phase begins with the follicle entering a state of inactivity and can last several weeks. The hair follicle shrinks in size. The so-called “club hair” forms – these are hairs that permanently stop growing. If many hair fibers are in this phase simultaneously, the hair looks thinner.
Next is the telogen phase, in which the dermal papilla separates from the follicle, blood supply stops, and it “rests”. This phase can last from a few weeks (in eyelashes) to several months (in scalp hair). At some point, the hair detaches painlessly and falls out (exogen phase). About 50 to 100 hairs fall from the scalp daily.
The growth cycle starts again when the dermal papilla reconnects with the follicle and blood supply is restored. This marks the beginning of a new anagen phase. The new hair starts to grow from the same follicle. If the old hair has not fallen out on its own, it is pushed out by the new one. The duration of the growth cycle is regulated by hormones and depends on where the hair grows, but also on other factors such as age, dietary habits, or environmental changes.
How does the BRAVE. NEW. HAIR. Growth series affect hair growth?
Stimulating growth depends on the size of the follicles, their nourishment, and the duration of the anagen phase. The active ingredients in the Growth series create optimal scalp conditions and support the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicle. In this way, they extend the anagen phase and give the hair time to grow. Here are the ingredients and how they work:
AMLA EXTRACT
A 360-degree ingredient for protecting follicles from aging processes. This ingredient is specially designed to maintain follicle size and support the growth of thick and healthy hair.
ESSENTIAL OILS OF ROSEMARY AND SAGE
Classic ingredients that stimulate hair growth. Rich sources of Magnesium, Zinc, Potassium, Vitamins B and C.
EXTRACTS OF GREEN GRAPE, ARUGULA, AND GREEN WALNUT
Stem cells from Green Grape stimulate scalp microcirculation and create favorable conditions for hair growth.
Arugula extract soothes and enhances the protective functions of the scalp.
Green Walnut extract contains polyphenols with antioxidant effects, and we discussed the need for antioxidants in a previous post.
The ingredients selected in the Growth series work in synergy – they stimulate hair growth and thicken it. Their effect can also be further enhanced; see how in our blog post here. See for yourself and feel the difference after just the first 3 weeks.
